Special Natural Area Districts (SNADs) were established to preserve unique natural features by requiring review of new developments and site alterations on primarily vacant land.

You can report illegal tree removal or unpermitted change to natural features in areas of the City that are zoned as SNADs.

Natural features include:

  • Trees
  • Forests
  • Rock outcroppings
  • Slopes

  • Wetlands

SNADs are located in:

  • The Bronx in Community Board 8, Riverdale
  • Queens in Community Board 7, Fort Trotten
  • Staten Island Greenbelt in Community Boards 1 and 2, including South Richmond and Hillside

There are no SNADs in Manhattan or Brooklyn.
