The New York State Homes and Community Renewal (HCR) Section 8 Voucher Waitlist Lottery is open.
Applications are being accepted Monday, July 13 at 8 AM through Friday, July 24 at 5 PM.
Submitting an application does not guarantee placement on the waitlist or receipt of a voucher.
If you are already on an HPD or NYCHA Section waitlist, you are not automatically placed on HCR's list. You must apply separately to HCR's waitlist.
Visit HCR NYC 2026 Section 8 Voucher Waitlist Lottery to apply.
Section 8, also known as the Housing Choice Voucher (HCV) Program, provides funding for rent subsidies for eligible low-income families for decent, safe, and affordable housing.
The general public cannot apply for the Department of Housing Preservation and Development (HPD) Section 8 Program.
You must be referred by other programs/agencies and meet very specific and defined requirements. These include HPD, the Department of Homeless Services (DHS), and the Human Resources Administration (HRA).
Families may choose housing within a neighborhood of their choice from a property owner. Rent subsidies (vouchers) allow families to pay approximately 30% of their income toward rent while the program, within specific limits, makes up the difference.
