DCWP has entered into a settlement agreement with self-storage company Extra Space over violations of NYC's Consumer Protection Law. Under the settlement, Extra Space agreed to pay $1 million in restitution to harmed consumers.

Eligibility

You may be eligible for compensation if you were harmed by Extra Space through false advertising, bait-and-switch pricing, hidden junk fees, or wrongful lockouts and auctioning of belongings.

File a claim by emailing ConsumerRestitution@dcwp.nyc.gov.

The New York County Supreme Court ordered Dorm2Dorm LLC, a moving and storage company that targets New York City area college students, to pay civil penalties and consumer restitution, and cease operating illegally.

DCWP’s complaint charges that Dorm2Dorm:

• Failed to provide the services consumers paid for;
• Made late pickups and deliveries; 
• Misplaced possessions; 
• Damaged possessions; and 
• Deceived consumers with false promises of a 25% "instant rebate."

If you used Dorm2Dorm and believe the company deceived you, you can file a complaint with DCWP to seek restitution.

The Department of Consumer and Worker Protection (DCWP) does not accept reports of rude employees. Report this type of complaint to the business.
