Cigarette vending machines are allowed only in taverns that have a tobacco retail dealer license.
A tavern is a business where:
- The primary purpose is to serve alcoholic drinks to be consumed on site
 - Food service is incidental or secondary to the sale of alcoholic beverages
 
Businesses like restaurants, bowling alleys, or theaters would not be allowed to have these machines.
You can make a complaint about a cigarette vending machine.
Cigarette vending machines can't be placed:
- In a prohibited location
 - Where employees can't see it
 - Within 25 feet of the building's entrance
 
A sign must also be posted next to the vending machine that shows:
- License number and expiration date
 - Address and phone number of supplier
