The Department of Consumer and Worker Protection reached a settlement with BuzzFeed Media Enterprises, Inc. over violations of NYC’s Freelance Isn’t Free Act. Under the settlement, BuzzFeed must pay restitution to 16 freelancers named in the settlement and any other eligible freelancers who file a claim.

Eligibility
You may be eligible to receive compensation if you:
- Performed freelance work for BuzzFeed between May 8, 2019 and August 15, 2024, AND
- Were not paid or received late payment for your work
