Monday, January 20 is Martin Luther King Jr. Day.

All government offices are closed, including:

  • Department of Motor Vehicles (DMV)
  • City and State Courts
  • Post offices

There will be no mail delivery.

Public schools and Department of Education (DOE) offices are also closed.

Alternate Side Parking (street cleaning) rules are suspended.

All other parking regulations, including parking meters, remain in effect.

There is no trash, compost or recycling collection on Monday, January 20.

If Monday is your regular trash, recycling, or compost collection day, place your items at the curb Monday evening for collection starting Tuesday, January 21. 

Please note that collection delays are common after holidays.

All NYC Public Schools are closed.

P311 (Parent Support Hotline) and Family Welcome Centers, including enrollment centers, are also closed.

Parking in School Zones

Parking is allowed in school zones when school is in recess. However, specific schools may be open on holidays, and parking restrictions would remain in effect. You should contact specific schools to verify that they are in recess.

The Staten Island Ferry runs on a holiday schedule with service provided every 30 minutes from 7 AM to midnight.

In addition, there will be no lower-level boarding in St. George Terminal.

All branches of the City's Public Library systems are closed.
