If a residential rental building contains rent stabilized units, the property owner must post a notice indicating so in a public area of the building. This notice is ONLY required for any multiple dwelling that contains one or more dwelling units subject to the rent stabilization law of 1969.
The Notice to Tenants of Rent Stabilized Dwelling Units must be posted in English and Spanish in the building’s common area.
The notice must include:
- Building address
- HPD property registration number
- How to find out if you unit is registered as rent stabilized
Use Rent Regulated Apartments page to contact NY State Division of Homes and Community Renewal (HCR) for rent regulation history.
Learn more about the requirements and find sample notices in multiple languages.
You can report a building containing rent-stabilized units that does not have the notice posted.
